I learned about Get Hired Boot Camp Dot Com from an advertisement that came to me via the International and Insolvency Professionals Group on LinkedIn. The advertisement was posted by Ryan A. Scarborough of Voidray Marketing Solutions.
Mr. Scarborough has next to no profile at all on LinkedIn and, so far as I can see, neither he nor Voidray (nor 'Get Hired Boot Camp.dot.com'!) has anything to do with credit or insolvency. Moreover, if you Google 'Get Hired Boot Camp' you will see that whilst it offers a free webinar, it's also selling some very expensive courses and is looking for affiliates - people who will sign up and pay up and go on to offer a free webinar based on the free webinar and so on, and so on.
Judging by Mr. Scarborough's input on LinkedIn, he has signed up and he has paid up and is now doing his best to make something out of nothing using whatever tools he can - and I suppose that one can't blame him for using them very badly.
The Job Centre may not be an exciting place to be, and it's no fun answering advertisements and sending out endless CV's and trying to stay positive about your prospects, but it's certainly better than signing up and wasting time and money buying into schemes that are - like the Boot Camp - deliberately targeted to attract people who are unemployed, and having a hard time getting a regular job.

After 7 minutes of signing onto the seminar, the meeting never started. I was suspicious that I may have launched a virus or something. So I goggled Get Hired Boot Camp and the word scam. Low and behold, I come across this post. Thanks for sharing your observations, I will not waste any of my time entertaining this "mess". Now I just wished that I had not provided them my primary email address.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the real story.
ReplyDeleteI just attendend the free webinar and it was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou should have been suspicious that they asked for your PRIMARY email address and they requested it in CAPITAL LETTERS. The strange request should have been a red flag to you. I gave them my bogus address that I use when I don't trust a website or person. I wanted to check out if they are legit or not. Unfortunately, they've weaseled their way into legit sites.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have too much of a problem with their webinar - there were a couple of good nuggets of information, amidst a lot of trying to sell you on the program. As long as you don't buy into the kool-aid, it's not a terrible free webinar.
ReplyDeleteI had no intention of spending anything, but thanks for saving my time.
ReplyDeleteI am not affiliated in any way with Get Hired Bootcamp or any of their staff or affiliates. I saw their ads in some of the LinkedIn groups that I subscribe to and decided to attend the free webinar. I registered with no issue, they use a very easy/common webinar system, Go-To-Meeting, and the session started on time. The session provided some VERY GOOD tips during the first 45 minutes of the webinar, the presenter then introduced and promoted their paid program for about 30 minutes, then provided a great carrot at the end of the session that I felt was worth waiting for. While I now get several emails from them each week on upcoming programs, most of their emails also include links to useful article about the use of social media in the job search or marketing. I have attended several different free webinars they offer and have learned new things each time.
ReplyDeleteI have not paid for one of their programs and I am not sure if I ever will, but I have recommended the free webinars to many upcoming graduates and others looking for work.
I hope this is viewed as an honest review and I encourage anyone to at least attend their free webinars (you can always unsubscribe to their email list)
I signed up and used their program. They had top notch professionals in the field and I found it an excellent training resource. Perhaps their marketing is more like a shotgun, but the product is good for professionals.
ReplyDeleteI attended the webinar today which just ended at 2pm EST. I agree that there are good ideas presented during the webinar that are well worth an hour of your job search time. The cost for the program was $97 today. I will not pay for the program, but would be willing to view more free webinars.
ReplyDeleteI attended a webinar for the Get Hired Boot Camp and found the information presented to be valuable. In a moment of weakness, I purchased the program. I was underwhelmed. There wasn't much to it (10 more training videos). Worse (for me) is that this is static information with no updates or support community (other than their public sites). Also, there was no money-back guarantee. I would never again purchase an information product or membership site if it did not offer a MBG.
